The Executive was disappointed to receive the recent resignation of Shelf CC from the League but buoyed by the action taken by the club in conjunction with Northowram Hedge Top CC. Whilst Shelf had a possible unique problem going forward, with regard to its tenancy at Carr House Road, both clubs after consultation recognised that they had a joint problem with a shortage of cricketers in their squads that required drastic action. After much deliberation and soul searching, and mindful of the fact that if no action was taken both clubs could cease to exist, the decision was taken that Shelf CC would resign from the League and would merge its senior league operations into that at Northowram Hedge Top CC.

Already that decision has been excellently supported by the 2017 Shelf players which has resulted in sixteen transferring to Hedge Top with more to follow. In a gesture of good faith the Hedge Top club has amended its operating name to Shelf Northowram Hedge Top CC with effect from Season 2018. Its teams will operate for the forthcoming season in the same divisions as Hedge Top’s in 2017 with its First XI in the Premier Division and its Second XI in Division One.

In addition to the players referred to above the renamed club is in the process of incorporating officials and other staff from Shelf CC at Hedge Top and further information & details of this will be supplied when available. With the resignations of both Jer Lane CC and Shelf CC the full constitution of all SW Halifax Cricket League divisions will be confirmed at the Executive meeting on Monday 15 January and communicated on this website within 48 hours of that meeting. The Executive would especially wish to pay tribute to all concerned at the two clubs in coming to an very acceptable solution to their problems, conducted in our amateur league in a very professional manner.
