President's Message Season 2012 - 99 Not Out
This season is our 99th as our League was formed in 1914 by a breakaway of 10 clubs who were dissatisfied with the Halifax and District Cricket League's decision to go to two divisions coupled with unease about the standard of pitches. I am pleased to report that of those original 10 clubs 4 are still in our league, 2 are in other leagues and the other 4 have folded. The 4 clubs that were part of the original breakaway and are still members are Greetland, Sowerby Bridge, Stainland and Triangle. Preparations are well under way to commemorate our centenary including the publication of a Centenary book but first we must enjoy our 99.
We still operate an entirely amateur league with all 30 clubs running two open age teams on Saturdays, and a number of clubs running three teams playing in our Sunday Section. Junior cricket also plays a major role within our League and clubs can operate teams from Under 9 through to Under 17. If you would like to play cricket or be involved in any way in our League please visit our member clubs or email our officers for help and information.
This form of communication for our local cricketers and cricket clubs is now an invaluable one. Our aim is to provide all our cricketing supporters, wherever you are in the world, with a site that is informative, useful and packed with a wide variety of information. Browse around andĀ if you have any queries or suggestions please email us.
We are immensely proud that in 2012 Copley CC has been awarded two accolades under the NatWest Cricket Force initiative. The Yorkshire Cricket Board named Copley as the County Showcase Club and then the England and Wales Cricket Board named them as one of only 3 National Showcase Clubs. This is high profile recognition for our league and the club. All our member clubs are run by dedicated, hardworking, cricket loving volunteers and all are encouraged by these rewards.
We offer some competitive cricket throughout the season at our well appointed grounds where I am sure you will receive a very warm welcome. Enjoy your Halifax League cricket experience.
